Recent advances in computer vision have given rise to a robust and invariant visual pattern recognition technology that is based on extracting a set of characteristic features from an image. Such features are obtained with the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) which represents the variations in brightness of the image around the point of interest. Recognition performed with these features has been shown to be quite robust in realistic settings. This paper describes the application of this particular visual pattern recognition (ViPR) technology to a variety of robotics applications: object recognition, navigation, manipulation, and human-machine interaction. The paper also describes the technology in more detail and presents a business case for visual pattern recognition in the field of robotics and automation.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to test an artificial neural network (ANN) for estimating the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) as a function of the maximum and minimum air temperatures in the Campos dos Goytacazes county, State of Rio de Janeiro. The data used in the network training were obtained from a historical series (September 1996 to August 2002) of daily climatic data collected in Campos dos Goytacazes county. When testing the artificial neural network, two historical series were used (September 2002 to August 2003) relative to Campos dos Goytacazes, and Vi?osa, State of Minas Gerais. The ANNs (multilayer perceptron type) were trained to estimate ETo as a function of the maximum and minimum air temperatures, extraterrestrial radiation, and the daylight hours; and the last two were previously calculated as a function of either the local latitude or the Julian date. According to the results obtained in this ANN testing phase, it is concluded that when taking into account just the maximum and minimum air temperatures, it is possible to estimate ETo in Campos dos Goytacazes.  相似文献

Electronic Mediated Communication (EMC) has become highly prevalent in our daily lives. Many of the communication formats used in EMC are text-based (e.g., instant messaging), and users often include visual paralinguistic cues in their messages. In the current study, we examined the usage of two such cues – emoji and emoticons. Specifically, we compared self-reported frequency of use, as well as attitudes (6 bipolar items, e.g., “fun” vs. “boring”) and motives for their usage (9 motives, e.g., “express how I feel to others”). We also examined these indicators according to age and gender. Overall, participants (N?=?474, 72.6% women; Mage?=?30.71, SD?=?12.58) reported using emoji (vs. emoticons) more often, revealed more positive attitudes toward emoji usage, and identified more with motives to use them. Moreover, all the ratings were higher among younger (vs. older) participants. Results also showed that women reported to use emoji (but not emoticons) more often and expressed more positive attitudes toward their usage than men. However, these gender differences were particularly evident for younger participants. No gender differences were found for emoticons usage. These findings add to the emerging body of literature by showing the relevance of considering age and gender, and their interplay, when examining patterns of emoji and emoticons use.  相似文献

Free propagation in continuous optical and mechanical systems is generated by the momentum-squared operator and results in a shear of the phase space plane along the position coordinate. We examine three discrete versions of the Fresnel transform in periodic systems through their Wigner function on a toroidal phase space. But since it is topologically impossible to continuously and globally shear a torus, we examine a fourth version of the Fresnel transform on a spherical phase space, in a model based on the Lie algebra of angular momentum, where the corresponding Fresnel transform wrings the sphere.  相似文献

The heat resistance of Listeria monocytogenes was determined in sucrose solutions with water activity (a(w)) ranging from 0.99 to 0.90. At all temperatures investigated shape of the survival curves depended on the a(w) of the treatment medium. The survival curves for a(w)=0.99 appeared to be linear, for a(w)=0.96 were slightly upwardly concaved and for a(w)=0.93 and 0.90 were markedly concave upward. A mathematical model based on the Weibull distribution provided a good fit for all the survival curves obtained in this investigation. The effect of the temperature and a(w) on the Weibull model parameters was also studied. The shape parameter (p) depended on the a(w) of the treatment medium but in each medium of different a(w) the temperature did not have a significant effect on this parameter. The p parameter followed a linear relationship with a(w). The scale parameter (delta) decreased with the temperature following an exponential relationship and increased by decreasing the a(w) in the range from 0.99 to 0.93. However the delta parameter of survival curves obtained at a(w)=0.90 were lower than those obtained at a(w)=0.93. A mathematical model based on the Weibull parameters was built to describe the joint effect of temperature and a(w) on thermal inactivation of L. monocytogenes. This model provides a more complete information on the influence of the a(w) on the L. monocytogenes than the data initially generated. The model developed indicated that the effect of the a(w) on the thermal resistance of L. monocytogenes varied depending upon the temperature of treatment.  相似文献

The Boltzmann echo (BE) is a measure of irreversibility and sensitivity to perturbations for non-isolated systems. Recently, different regimes of this quantity were described for chaotic systems. There is a perturbative regime where the BE decays with a rate given by the sum of a term depending on the accuracy with which the system is time reversed and a term depending on the coupling between the system and the environment. In addition, a parameter-independent regime, characterized by the classical Lyapunov exponent, is expected. In this paper, we study the behaviour of the BE in hyperbolic maps that are in contact with different environments. We analyse the emergence of the different regimes and show that the behaviour of the decay rate of the BE is strongly dependent on the type of environment.  相似文献

The effects of post-treatment environmental factors on the heat resistance of Bacillus stearothermophilus spores (ATCC 12980, 7953, 15951 and 15952) were investigated. Nutrient Agar (NA), Antibiotic Assay Medium (AAM), Dextrose Tryptone Agar (DTA) and Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) with Ca2+ added to a final concentration of 100 p.p.m. were used as recovery media. No significant differences were seen between D-values obtained except in the case of strain 12980 when comparing TSA with the other media and for strain 7953 comparing AAM and DTA. The optimum incubation temperature was slightly lower for heated than for unheated spores of each strain, although, in general, 50 °C was adequate. Higher D-values were obtained at 50–55 °C. The effects of the pH of the medium in the range 5.0–7.0 and the addition of starch and phosphate on heat resistance have also been investigated. Maximum colony counts of heated spores were obtained at pH 7.0 and decreased as pH fell. D-values were significantly lower at pH ≤ 5.5. Increasing the concentration of phosphate in the recovery medium from 0 to 0.2% resulted in a progressive decrease in spore recovery and D-values. The addition of starch improved recoverability. The z-values obtained for the four strains studied under the different recovery conditions were similar with a mean value of 7.58 °C ± 0.28.  相似文献
